That may possibly have been even worse than powdered milk. I remember one time, my dad giving us Cheerios with orange juice instead of powdered milk. My hatred for powdered milk is strong and deep, and so I rarely ate cold cereal growing up because not even the most delicious cereal on the face of the planet could mask the taste of powdered milk. (My kids have no idea how good they’ve got it). No joke, regular milk from the grocery store was a ridiculously thrilling thing for us growing up. Just let us know which one you choose, because I want to try it at home too.I like to joke that we have the least fun pantry in the world, and it’s fairly true.īut growing up, our family SERIOUSLY had the least fun pantry in the world. I used to have a kids cook that had a recipe for it and I made it a few times and they were delicious.Īnyway, most cereals you choose will be good for your get together. And I’d justify it as “I’m making sure the baby is alive because she loves this meal.” At 7:30 am.Ĭocoa puffs are also kick ass in the recipe if you replace your regular butter for peanut butter. Honestly, I used to eat it for breakfast because it would wake the baby up to do kick counting faster than a glass of juice would. I’d make a batch of one or two so I would only eat it fresh and hot out of the microwave, which ruined me for Rice Krispies and fruity pebble Krispies, but whatever. I think it gave me gestational diabetes a little bit but man my kid was jumping for joy for when I had one of those. I would take marshmallows, put them in a small bowl, and make them just like rice krispie treats except with fruit pebbles instead of Rice Krispie treats. When I was pregnant with my second kid, I was OBSESSED with fruit pebble treats. ![]() End product was a fresher, more grown up rice krispie treat. Will report back once I make them!Įdit 2: they were a big hit! I ended up putting more honey than I thought I would, because those vegan marshmellows ended up being not very sweet at all. (I was debating on Cheerios, but I thought they make not look very good, plus my personal Kellogg's strike is still ongoing lol.) Brown butter comments are noted! I think I'll add a bit of honey and salt as well. I ended up settling on Kix, which u/amymeganrogers suggested, especially since a lot of comments had me worried about making them too sweet. So I got the marshmallows (the vegan ones from Whole Foods, which is a whole other concern.) but I'm thinking maybe doing another cereal would be more original? I'm contemplating Apple Jacks since the colors are Halloween-y, but does anyone have experience using anything other than rice krispies?Įdit: Thanks everyone! I've read through all the comments. But I'm going to a get-together and had the idea of making homemade rice krispie treats. Make sure to include a link!
